Math
This week in math we'll be continuing our unit on percents by focusing on multiple ways to calculate markups/tax/tip and discount. For example - finding the total cost of an $80 jacket with a 15% discount - instead of multiplying 80 by 0.15 and subtracting the answer from 80, students will need to know that they can simply multiply 80 by 0.85. Similarly, instead of calculating 20% tip and 7.5% tax on a bill of $23.65 with multiple steps (multiplying and adding), students will be able to complete it in one step by multiplying $23.65 by 1.275. Quiz on Friday. Science After a final day of project work time on Monday, students will present their genetic disorders group projects starting on Tuesday. As soon as every group has presented (this might stretch into Wednesday), I will pass out the study guide for the summative unit assessment on heredity, which will be given on Friday. Our next unit, which is on rocks and minerals, will begin with a pretest next Monday.
