Welcome back!
We will be starting this week by re-capping solving one-step equations from 6th grade. We will spend once class period re-capping this skill. It is important they remember solving one-step for us to move forward with solving two-step equations. We will be solving two step equations the same way we solved one-step, by using inverse operations to isolate the variable. That is the most important thing to take away. We MUST isolate the variable. We are then going to be building skills to help us with translating mathematical situations to equations. Students are presented with a real-world scenario, or phrase that they must translate into an algebraic equation. They define each equation using the context of the situation. This work develops students' understanding that an algebraic approach to problem solving looks at the relationships between the quantities and uses variables, numbers, and operations to describe the relationships. |
