We will begin the week by assessing multiplication and division with positive and negative numbers,
We will then move on the mathematical properties focusing on the distributive property. In 6th grade students learned that expressions are equivalent if they have the same value and that equations are equivalent if they have the same solution. We will be expanding these foundations by introducing rational number coefficients and factors, as well as introducing the idea of generating equivalent equations by using the properties of equality and the distributive, associative, and commutative properties. We will start with using the distributive property on numerical expressions. When we are comfortable with that, we will move on to using the property to evaluate algebraic expressions. It's important for them to see the relationship between expressions that are written in different forms. Comments are closed.
