This week we will fluently rewrite algebraic expressions using the distributive property. Students will use the distributive property to factor a linear expression with and without rational coefficients. This helps to build procedural skill with the distributive property. Students understand what it looks like to use the sum or difference as a factor. This work develops students' understanding that the distributive property holds for any expression, even those with rational number coefficients and unknown values.
Students engage in Mathematical Practice 7 (look for and make use of structure) as they construct area models to help visualize different but equivalent forms of expressions. Key vocabulary:
The Weekly Math Mania will be uploaded on Friday 1.22.16 when it is assigned in class. Please check back on the site to download it. We will be using more technology based assessments in class as we get closer to the TNReady tests. (Part 1 of the Mathematics will be on February 18th. We will be using a great online testing interface called SchoolNet which can be accessed from anywhere. Students are very familiar with this interface, as they have used it to take the district benchmark tests, as well as test for Math class. I wanted to provide you with the link so you and your child can view any daily assessments given in my class that your child has completed. It is a great way to review concepts. https://nashville.schoolnet.com/Authentication.aspx?mode=login They will use their username and login that they have been using all year. Comments are closed.
