Hello! We will begin our week with a study review of equations and expressions. They will begin this in class, and we will have the exam on Wednesday. The will have Monday and Tuesday to review. On Thursday we will begin our new unit, Ratios and Unit Rates involve "Reasoning up and down" with ratios which is emphasized throughout the unit, both through working toward a unit rate and through working with relationships within and between ratio pairs. When students use relationships between ratio pairs, they think about scaling both ratio components in the same way. This maintains the relationship between the quantities as they change together in the same way multiplicatively.
When students work with the relationship within a ratio, they use a multiplicative comparison. For instance, in the ratio of 3 practice balls for every 6 players, we think about always needing a number of practice balls that is 1/2 the number of players. This should remain true for any number of balls and players. The "within" relationship prepares students for learning about slope in later units. The unit provides a variety of ratio situations, including those with like and unlike units. NOTE!!! The project has been extended until the end of the week. The project is not due until Friday 11.11! ALSO!!! The students will STILL be responsible for completing the DMR problems on Tuesday (no school). Comments are closed.
