Math
This week in math we will be starting our new unit on percents. We will begin with reviewing how to write percents as decimals and vice versa, and then move on to finding the percent of a number (ex. what is 37% of 54?). This concept gets extended later in the week when we begin to use proportions to solve word problems involving percents. Expect a quiz on Friday! Science This week in science we will be continuing our unit on heredity. We will be tackling the standard that requires students to differentiate between sexual and asexual reproduction. The process of meiosis (sex cell division) will be taught early in the week, with an emphasis on why sex cells must be divided twice (as opposed to once during mitosis). We will then move on to the three ways that organisms can reproduce asexually and compare the DNA of their offspring with the DNA of offspring who were produced sexually. Quiz on Friday.
