VOCABULARY: I never tested on the last batch of vocabulary words. I have elected to save them for later. Instead, I'm going with a more pointed group of words. They come either directly from the new anchor text, The Contender, or from the concepts and lines of inquiry in our new unit. Again, some advanced 7th graders will be working with the 8th grade words (the advanced list is similar to the one given out before the break - slightly modified). Your child will know for which ones he/she is responsible.
Regular 7th Grade Words: culture, aesthetics, nationalist, contender, casual, mimic, gratify, perpetual, synagogue, nausea, tenement, congregation.
Advanced 7th/8th Grade Words: tremulous, languish, fatuous, somnolent, xenophobia, chasm, ribald, assimilate, susceptible, narcissism, (a)meliorate, feasible, rhapsodize, connoisseur, strident.
This coming week: in the first two days, students will be taking their final reading test on The House of the Scorpion; on the third day, we will begin a new unit, with a new global context, new CC focus standards, and a new anchor text. I will post the new focus standards, mastery of which will be assessed in a benchmark test in early December, on this page. Look for the blue button marked, "Second Quarter Standards."
If you have any questions or concerns, please, don't hesitate to email me. Thanks for checking in. ~ Joe Nettles ***I have just discovered that none of the document links I have posted on the blue buttons appear to actually work. I will look into this. Apologies!
