This week, students must submit their answers to text dependent questions for Staves Three and Four of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Stave Two should've been turned in by now. This is also the last week for turning in all the CC Vocabulary words defined and used in sentences. They will have had at least three weeks to get this done.
Monday, students should be prepared for an assessment on Clauses and Compound/Complex Sentences. I've been forecasting this test for a while, and its time has finally come.
Students will also be assessed on identifying Figurative Language this Thursday.
One more thing: I will be grading journals/notebooks over the break. Some students have not been good about keeping up with these, despite the fact that I have preached their importance since day one. If there is no journal for me to grade, it will result in an F being entered into the gradebook. Please check with your young scholar about this.
It is hard to believe that half the school year has come and gone.
Thanks! - Mr. Nettles
Hello, again. We had no tests last week. I am grading persuasive essays right now. We continue to focus on clauses/compound/complex sentences in grammar, and I do believe we will be ready to assess that by the end of THIS week.
We continue to work with A Christmas Carol. During our reading we are identifying and interpreting figurative language as we come across it in the text. This is another skill that will be assessed after further practice. I will have to determine the readiness of most students before I know exactly when the test will be - probably early next week.
Reminder, there are no traditional vocabulary tests before the break. Students will get one vocab grade for turning in ALL words defined and used in a sentence. They will get one more grade shared with their group for making a Kahoot quiz with a certain selection of the vocabulary words.
One more thing - we will create our list of debate topics this week, and I will assign debate groups by Friday.
In My Class:
All students are expected to behave as scholars. I am dedicated to fostering a safe, supportive, fun, rigorous academic environment. I love my job, I love your kids, and I'm going to do my best for them. I expect them to do their best as well.
