This week, students will work in their debate groups, building strong persuasive arguments for debates which should begin next week. Groups and topics were (mostly) randomly selected.

Students should be through with the Chicago section of The Glory Field (up to 1964) by now. Thanks for checking in. - Mr. Nettles
This week, I am assigning members and topics to debate teams. These teams are being chosen by drawing names randomly. Most teams will consist of three members - there may be a few exceptions.
Students will be answering text dependent questions from The Glory Field. These may be graded. Your young scholar should be well into the first 130 some-odd pages by now. We are picking up steam on it.
That is pretty much all there is for now. The most recent vocabulary test has been graded. I'll pass them out tomorrow (Tuesday). Check with your child to find out if she or he needs to arrange for a retake. Thanks for checking in.
This week, starting Wednesday, we will begin the writing portion of TNReady. Students will be asked to read a passage, annotate it, and write an essay based upon a prompt. Otherwise, we will be reading The Glory Field, and at some point later in the week I will give the kids a vocabulary quiz on the most recent list of words.
I will also be grouping our young scholars into debate teams.
We will continue to work with Bloom's Taxonomy, and students will learn to identify levels of thinking required to answer various text dependent questions. They will also be required to compose their own multi-level questions using different verbs from Bloom's Taxonomy. This skill, however, will not be formally assessed until next week. Thank you!
