This week, students will have a vocabulary test mid-week on the first set of Animal Farm words.
Students will receive an Animal Farm packet. They will work through this as they read the book. They need to keep up with this as it will be for a major grade near the end of the unit. Some of the readings from this book are going to be assigned for home work; therefore, students do need to have their own copies.
As I wrote before, we will begin working on our final argument topic this week. Students will research and develop positions about the topic of National Service.
I sincerely apologize for the late post. Because of the MAP testing this week, I will not give students their vocabulary tests. They will take the vocabulary quiz on Monday.
Students should have their own copies of Animal Farm by Monday, as well.
For the remainder of the week, students will be learning about Verb Phrases. The test on those will be next week.
Also, students will begin working on a debate topic.
Thanks - JN
Hello - this week there will be a quiz on Greek and Latin roots. There will also be another graded argument analysis. In addition, students will begin working on new topics about which to create their own arguments for debate.
Students will receive a new selection of vocabulary words to begin practicing and studying for a quiz next week. That is all, for now. Thanks - JN
Good Day to You All -
As of this past Friday, students should have completed their argument rough drafts. They will type them and forward them to me this Monday. I will be grading them throughout the week as we move on to new argument topics and analyses.
We also need to get back to a little grammar instruction; therefore, I'm going to be focusing on phrases - prepositional, appositive, infinitive, gerund, and participial phrases over the next couple of weeks. Students' ability to identify phrases will be assessed either at the end of the week or early next week, depending on progress. Hopefully, students will be able to incorporate this new knowledge into their writing.
A new round of Greek and Latin roots will go out this week.
Advanced Language and Literature has some Call of the Wild work due at the start of the week, and a vocabulary test on words from the book later in the week. These students should be ready to start reading chapters 6 and 7 this week.
