The vocabulary test will occur on Tuesday. Students will have to be able to correctly use the words in original sentences. Words being assesses can be found in last week's post.
We will continue to prepare for TN Ready this week as we focus on reading comprehension and analysis skills. Students will be assessed later in the week on their ability to write a short compare/contrast analysis of two William Blake poems: "The Tyger" and "The Lamb."

This week we begin analyzing a wide variety of genres. We will continue our work with poetry and work with a short story as well. Students will compose short narratives. In addition, we will practice TN Ready skills. Knowledge of new vocabulary words will be assessed NEXT MONDAY.
This week, we have a vocabulary test Monday. Students must pick 10 of the words from the word bank and properly use them in sentences.
The debate was the big assessment for this past unit, so a grade for THE GLORY FIELD will come from an open book multiple choice test. I will give them some time in class to work on it, but they will finish it as a take-home. It is due Wednesday.
We will begin a new unit this week, WORLD OF WORDCRAFT. The emphasis will be on a variety of genres and writing styles. We will begin it with a lesson on a Dylan Thomas poem. You need not buy any books for this final unit.
Thanks for checking in. Sincerely, Joe Nettles
This week, it's really all about the culmination of this unit with student debates. Students must use Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to prepare for their debates on Thursday and Friday. We will also take a few moments along the way to review the latest vocabulary (see list in previous post). I will not assess knowledge of these words until Friday..
There is no new anchor text to buy for the upcoming unit. We are going to be reading a variety of shorter works from different genres.
