Welcome back. I hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving. Christmas break isn't far away. That being said, there are some things quickly coming due: 1. Poem Recitation (ask your kids); 2. Digital.Readworks.org Articles (kids have to do at least two in regular ELA, three in Advanced ELA). Here are the class codes by class period: first = V7VHGZ; second = BRJ25W; third = RZ7LXU; sixth = XW6S4K.
I'll be handing out new vocabulary lists this Monday. Test next Monday.
Students will be writing short compare/contrast informational texts about characters in Bronx Masquerade. This will be a graded assignment.
The final assignment for this unit will be part research part analysis of a poet and his/her work. I will provide a list of poets from which students may choose. This will be due before the break.
That's enough information for now. Thanks for checking in. - JN
This week in 7th grade Language & Literature:
*Greek & Latin Roots Quiz number 3
*Grammar Focus: Verb Conjugation Practice
*Reading Focus: Bronx Masquerade - studies in character and theme. We will study the traits and lives of individual characters from the novel and determine common themes with which the novel is dealing. Students will take notes in their journals, which I will soon again grade. They need to be keeping up with all their journal work, bell work, note-taking, etc. in their composition books.
*If students did not submit their typed ...Crazy Horse summaries to me, via email, they are now overdue. Please check with your child to ensure that she or he has taken care of this.
Thank you - JN
This week, students begin reading Bronx Masquerade.
The grammar focus will be on verb conjugation, but that won't be assessed until next week.
There will be another Greek/Latin roots quiz this Thursday.
Students need to submit their typed chapter summaries from our previous novel ASAP. I will provide some class time to complete those; they did get two days to work on those last week.
Thanks - JN
